Kentucky Reaches Out to Natural Gas Vehicle Dealers

7.11.2012 - The National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) and its fifty-six member states are drafting a Request for Proposal for the purchase of OEM natural gas vehicles. The lead state for this effort is Oklahoma. We anticipate that the solicitation will be released later this month and notices will appear on this website and on the websites of at least 20 states. Responses will be due to Oklahoma (as the lead state) in late August/early September.

This effort was begun in April with the release of an RFI (announced on this website) by Colorado. As of today, 20 states have indicated an Intent to Participate in this effort, including: Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Uath, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.

If you are a dealer who does or can or wants to potentially provide OEM natural gas vehicles to any of these states we strongly encourage you to contact your OEM and get certified to provide warranty repair services for NGV’s. We understand that this certification can take some time and potential responders will have to be certified in order be able to submit compliant responses. We would encourage potential dealer responders to act NOW.

UPDATE (10.12.12) - We are encouraged by what’s happening in regards to the bids that came in for the CNG initiative. OK and CO have made great strides in this area. For Kentucky, we continue to look at initiatives at the state level to stimulate demand for alternative fueled vehicles. Right now Kentucky’s CNG vehicle purchase level is relatively small, which translates into a fairly small need for CNG fuel purchases. As CNG vehicles are added to the state fleet or local government fleets, this will spur the need for more fueling stations.
