    • Federal Tax Credits for All-Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles
      • For vehicles acquired after December 31, 2009, the federal tax credit is equal to $2,500 plus, for a vehicle which draws propulsion energy from a battery with at least 5 kilowatt hours of capacity, $417, plus an additional $417 for each kilowatt hour of battery capacity in excess of 5 kilowatt hours. The total amount of the credit allowed for a vehicle is limited to $7,500.

          • Vehicle Acquisition Requirements: These laws include requirements to purchase alternative fuel vehicles for use by the city or its contractors. Cities with laws that promote electric vehicles include:
          • Promotion Initiatives: These policy plans include building infrastructure and marketing programs to promote the use of PEVs.
          • Infrastructure Requirements: These policy initiatives all include PEV infrastructure in the building code. Kansas City includes that PEV parking spaces are used for parking and charging PEV’s only; Los Angeles includes that new construction must have PEV charging available; and New York City includes that new parking garages and lots have EVSE charging for at least 20% of spaces.
