Transportation Department to Invest $610 Million to Modernize U.S. Bus Infrastructure

The U.S. Department of Transportation has just announced an investment of $610 million to modernize the U.S. Bus Infrastructure.

  • Approx. $21 million to support transit agencies looking to buy, lease, rehabilitate buses and vans, and build bus facilities.
  • Approx. $589 million supporting transit agencies looking to buy or lease low-emissions or no-emission buses.

Bus Program Eligibility

Eligible Bus Program Recipients – Designated recipients, states, local government entities, and federally recognized Indian tribes.

Eligible Bus Program Sub-recipients – All otherwise eligible recipients and private nonprofit organizations.

  • Eligible Projects:
    • Purchasing, leasing, and rehabilitating of buses
    • Purchasing, leasing, rehabilitating, and constructing of bus facilities and equipment.

Low-No Emission Program Eligibility

Eligible Low-No Program – Include certain designated recipients, states, local government entities, and federally recognized Indian tribes.

  • Eligible Projects:
    • Purchasing or leasing of low-emission buses, including (but not limited to) propane, CNG, and hybrid-electric buses.
    • Purchase or lease of zero-emission buses, including (but not limited to) Hydrogen fuel-cell buses, Battery-electric buses, and rubber-tire trolley buses
