Federal Alternative Fuel Tax Credits Back in Discussion
The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to approve H.R.5771, the Tax Increase Prevention Act of 2014, which contains a provision that would retroactively extend the federal $0.50/gallon alternative fuels excise tax credits through the end of this year.
These credits, which cover compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), propane autogas and other products used as transportation fuels, expired at the end of 2013. Over the years, the 50-cent incentive has helped alternative fuels gain a foothold by offering retail, commercial and private refueling owners a means to shore up the bottom line or pass fuel-cost savings on to customers.

The White House and U.S. Department of Energy Announce Private Sector Commitments to Cut Carbon Pollution and Reduce Our Dependence on Foreign Oil
The Obama Administration is committed to taking responsible steps to combat climate change and reduce our dependence on oil. That is why today, the White House and the Edison Electric Institute, which represents investor-owned electric utilities, are announcing new commitments by more than 120 businesses, non-profits, and schools, including more than 70 Edison Electric Institute utility companies, to purchase electric vehicles and technologies and to install workplace charging stations.
Among those committed include Kentucky Clean Fuel Coalition members LG&E and KU, and the University of Louisville.
M & M Cartage and Kentuckiana Cleanfuel Open CNG Fueling Station
M & M Cartage of Louisville and Kentuckiana Cleanfuel (KCF) partnered to open a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station in Louisville, Kentucky at 6200 Geil Lane on November 19, 2014. Family and friends gathered at the CNG site this morning for a celebratory soft opening.
The site off Interstate 65 is the first KCF station and one of several CNG fueling locations Kentuckiana Cleanfuel and M & M Cartage plan to open throughout the region. The station will not only fuel M & M Cartage’s natural gas fleet, but government and commercial fleets, as well as the general public.

IC Bus Showcases Purpose-Built Propane School Bus at NAPT Summit
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — IC Bus, LLC was in attendance this weekend at the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) 40th Annual Conference & Trade Show. The company showcased its latest product innovation, the IC Bus™ CE Series school bus powered by the Power Solutions International (PSI) 8.8-liter LP propane engine.
Purpose-built for the school bus industry, the CE Series with PSI propane engine is designed to provide diesel-like performance with higher torque at lower engine speeds. It will be available for order for the 2015-2016 school year.
HDT Announces Top 50 Green Fleets of 2014
Heavy Duty Trucking announced its second annual Top 50 Greet Fleets at the Green Fleet Conference in Schaumburg, Ill., Thursday. A ceremony was held at the conference to honor these fleets for their sustainability efforts.
The Top 50 Green Fleets highlights fleets that are pushing for sustainability and making it a part of their everyday operations, such as improving fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions, using alternative fuels, building green facilities, etc.
Fleets were asked to fill out a short online survey about their vehicles, alternative fuels and other green initiatives. HDT’s editors also considered other fleets that were clearly leaders in the field.
KCFC members M & M Cartage and UPS were recognized among the 50 Greet Fleets.

Learn beyond the classroom with a scholarship to National Biodiesel Conference
The Nov. 24 deadline is fast approaching for science students interested in applying to attend the National Biodiesel Conference & Expo, Jan. 19 – 22 in Fort Worth, Texas. Hosted by the National Biodiesel Board, students are invited to apply for a travel scholarship as well as to present their research. This opportunity comes through the Next Generation Scientists for Biodiesel, an NBB program that aims to educate and collaborate with young scientists.
At this premier biodiesel event, students can attend conference sessions and network with top scientists in the field. They may also apply to present a poster on their biodiesel-related research or outreach during a poster session. Some will be invited to present during a breakout session.
“This opportunity allowed me to make contacts with NGSB members and biodiesel professionals that I would never have made otherwise,” said Colin Stewart, a student at the University of Colorado – Boulder who attended the event in 2014. “The conference opened my eyes to the biodiesel industry, its future, and how I can play a role in it.”
Last year, 16 students from nine universities received scholarships to attend the conference. The scholarships are funded by state soybean organizations and the United Soybean Board through the soybean checkoff.

A reception was held for the Owensboro Community and Technical College Transportation (OCTC) Programs on October 27, 2014 at the OCTC Southeastern Campus, where the program received an award for National School of the Year.
